Some of us walk with dogs. All of us walk for them.
This simple idea sits at the heart of PAWS for GAWS - an inclusive community moment where everyone is welcome, whether you bring a four-legged companion or simply bring your heart.
Why We Walk
By joining PAWS for GAWS, you’re not just taking part in a fun and meaningful event, you’re making a tangible difference for the thousands of animals who come through the doors of the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) each year.
Every step supports the work GAWS does to promote the welfare and value of companion animals, contributing directly to the health and wellbeing of our broader community.
Walking with us means supporting:
- Homeless and surrendered animals seeking safety
- Medical treatment and rehabilitation
- Warm shelter, enrichment, and daily essentials
- The care teams who show up for animals every single day
Whether you walk with a dog or not, your steps carry impact for the animals who can’t be there on the day.
The Real Cost of Care
Last year, almost a third of all animals admitted to GAWS were dogs, many needing urgent veterinary care, behavioural support, or time to heal.
On average, it costs $65 a day to care for just one dog in our shelter.
That’s around $2,000 a month.
If you or your team raise $6,000, you’ll provide a full month of care for three happy, tail-wagging doggies, giving them everything they need – shelter, services and essentials - while they wait for their next chapter.

Powered by community generosity
GAWS is a not-for-profit organisation relying on the generosity of our supporters. Every dollar raised through PAWS for GAWS, big or small, creates real, immediate impact for animals across our region.
When you register, walk, or fundraise, you’re helping ensure that every animal who arrives at GAWS receives the care they deserve.
Some of us walk with dogs, but all of us walk for them.
